Don’t compare yourself with anyone in this world; if you do so, you are insulting yourself.

# 021 Secrets from Socrates

Having the fewest wants, I am nearest to the gods.

I know nothing except the fact of my ignorance.

I tell you that virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue comes money

# 020 Thoughts from Vivekananda

Maturity
It is good to be born a child; but bad to remain a child.

Thoughts
We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think.
Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.

Commitment
Even a fool can accomplish a task if it were after his or her heart. But the intelligent ones are those who can convert every work into one that suits their heart.

Education
Education is the manifestation of perfection already in man

Action
We are responsible for what we are, and whatever we wish to be.We have the power to make ourselves.
If what we are now has been the result of our own past actions, it certainly follows that whatever we wish to be in future can be produced by our present actions. So we have to know how to Act.

Character
Neither money pays, nor name, nor fame, nor learning,
it is character that can cleave through adamantine walls of difficulties

Society
Society does not go down because of the activities of criminals, But because of the inactivities of the good people.

Get up and Act

Get up and put your shoulders to the wheel, leave some mark behind. Otherwise where is the difference between the trees and stones? They too come into existence, decay and die.

Fearlessness
Only religion that ought to be taught is the religion of fearlessness. It is the fear that brings misery, death and breeds evil. And what causes fear? Ignorance of our real nature.

# 018 Gems from Jiddu

Self-knowledge is not a thing to be bought in books, nor is it the outcome of a long painful practice and discipline; but it is awareness, from moment to moment.

“A school is a place where one learns both the importance of knowledge and its limitation. …..”

"You are not to understand the teaching: you are to understand yourself. The teachings are only a means of pointing, explaining... Do not try to understand what the speaker says, but understand that what he says acts as a mirror in which you look at yourself. When you look at yourself carefully, then the mirror will not be important, you will be able to throw it away."

“When you call yourself an Indian or a Muslim or a Christian or a European, or anything else, you are being violent. Do you see why it is violent? Because you are separating yourself from the rest of mankind. When you separate yourself by belief, by nationality, by tradition, it breeds violence. So a man who is seeking to understand violence does not belong to any country, to any religion, to any political party or partial system; he is concerned with the total understanding of mankind.”

“The more you know yourself, the more clarity there is. Self-knowledge has no end - you don't come to an achievement, you don't come to a conclusion. It is an endless river.”

# 017 - negotiation

Let us never negotiate out of fear. But, let us never fear to negotiate.

# 015 “Spare & Steering wheel”

Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble,
but  it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout.

# 013 Quotes from Sri Sri Ravishankar

Wisdom from every part and every tradition

We don't have to be Danish to eat Danish cookies nor do we become Swiss if we eat Swiss chocolates. We accept food, music and technology too from every part of the world. Then, why don’t we accept wisdom from every part of the world and from every tradition?

A B C of Living

The Attitude must be right. Attitude lifts the altitude.
Possess a powerful Belief not a limiting belief.
Care for others and care for yourself

Uneven structure of smooth surface

Knowledge will be different at different levels. At a particular level you become Anasuya (devoid of fault finding eyes). There is a certain mindset that always finds fault, even in best of circumstances. That kind of mind cannot know the sacred knowledge. From a distance even craters cannot be seen. But with a microscope you can see uneven structure even in a very smooth surface!!

# 012 "Mind & parachute"

Mind is like a parachute. They only function when they are open                      Sir James Dewar

# 011 " Why & why not"

You see things and say 'why ?' 'but I dream things that never were;and I say 'why not?'                              George Bernard Shaw

# 010 " knowledge"

If you have knowledge let others light  their candles in it

M Fuller

# 009 "Happy people"

The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything they have.

# 008 "Science & spirituality"

Science and spirituality are two sides of the same coin. Science is what, why & how ? Spirituality is wonder - just wow ! Deepening the mystery of creation is science.Deepening the mystery of Self is spirituality.Science regards life as matter and spirituality regards even matter as life- 'padarth, gyanaat, mokshaha’.
They are two ways of looking at the same truth - the objective and the subjective.
Life is like a tree, its branches and leaves are science and the roots are spirituality

# 006 " The Musings of the Mahatma - Answers for our Times"

God sometimes does try to the uttermost those whom he wishes to bless

When I admire the wonders of a sunset or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in the worship of the creator

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony

I look only to the good qualities of men. Not being faultless myself, I won't presume to probe into the faults of others

There is a sufficiency in the world for man's need but not for man's greed

In prayer it is better to have a heart without words than words without a heart

To give service to a single heart by a single act is better than a thousand heads bowing in prayer

You must not lose faith in humanity. Humanity is an ocean; if a few drops of the ocean are dirty, the ocean does not become dirty

It is difficult, but not impossible, to conduct strictly honest business.

# 005 Gems from Genius

Who doesn't know Albert Einstein is a Genius. He was a theoretical physicist, philosopher, author and is perhaps the MOST influential scientist to have ever lived.

He has made great contribution to the scientific world:
The theory of relativity
Relativistic cosmology
Prediction of deflection of light by gravity
Quantum theory of atomic motion in solids
Zero point energy concept, to name a few
Received Nobel Prize for Physics in 1921

Published 300 scientific and 150 non scientific  work.

Given below are some of his quotes:

Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts.

Life is like a bicycle. To keep your balance you must keep moving.

# 002 "What keeps one going"

Arthur Ashe, the legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS. From world over, he received letters from his fans, one of which conveyed: "Why does GOD have to select you for such a bad disease"?

To this Arthur Ashe replied: The world over  50 million children start playing tennis, 5 million learn to play tennis, 500 thousand learn professional tennis, 50 thousand come to the circuit, 5 thousand reach the grand slam, 50 reach Wimbledon, 4 to semi final, 2 to the finals. When I was holding a cup I never asked GOD "Why me?".

And today in pain I should not be asking GOD "Why me?" Happiness keeps you Sweet, Trials keep you Strong, Sorrow keeps you Human, Failure Keeps you Humble, Success keeps you Glowing, But only God Keeps you Going.....

# 001- Gems from a genius

On prejudice

It is easier to split an atom than a prejudice

On relativity

When you sit with a nice girl for two hours, it seems like two minutes.
When you sit on a hot stove for two minutes, it seems like two hours.
That’s relativity.

If my theory of relativity is proven successful, Germany will claim me as a German, and France will declare that I am a citizen of the world.
Should my theory prove untrue, France will say that I am a German, and Germany will declare that I am a Jew.

On mathematics

Since the mathematicians have invaded the theory of relativity, I do not understand it myself anymore.

It would be possible to describe everything scientifically, but it would make no sense; it would be without meaning, as if you described a Beethoven symphony as a variation of wave pressure.

On mysteries

Science without religion is lame; religion without science is blind.

Before God we are all equally wise - equally foolish.

Each of us visits this Earth involuntarily and without an invitation. For me it is enough to wonder at its secrets.

There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.

The most incomprehensible thing about the world is that it is at all comprehensible.

The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science.

On invention of atomic bomb

I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones.

Now you know who it is  - A. Einstein
